What changed?

Japan revised the landing criteria for the Business Manager status of residence, effective 16 October 2025. The revised framework includes a capital or investment threshold of ¥30 million and requirements concerning employment and business management experience or relevant qualifications. The precise application depends on the applicant’s circumstances.

What if you already have this status?

There are transitional arrangements for some people who already held Business Manager status. The Immigration Services Agency publishes specific guidance, including information on renewals during the transition period. Do not assume the same rules apply to every application.

What should you prepare?

  • Your current residence status and expiry date
  • Company structure, investment and staffing information
  • Business history and Japanese-language arrangements
  • Questions for a qualified immigration specialist
