TAX & ACCOUNTING

Tax and accounting conversations, without unnecessary friction.

From selecting a tax accountant to understanding requests for records and discussing periodic filings, good communication saves time. Personal tax concerns can also be supported where appropriate.

01 / What to think about before a consultation

What to think about before a consultation

  • Is the concern corporate tax, accounting, payroll or a personal filing?
  • Do you already have a Japanese tax accountant?
  • Are there upcoming deadlines?
  • What documents or questions has your accountant requested?
02 / KIZUNA

How KIZUNA can help

  • Support communication with an accountant you already engage, where agreed.
  • Arrange interpretation for consultations and translate general correspondence.
  • Help clarify deadlines and document requests communicated by the adviser.
A MORE PRACTICAL GUIDE

Make tax and accounting part of the project plan

Founders and foreign residents often face very different filing duties. KIZUNA coordinates bilingual information, deadlines and meetings; qualified tax accountants independently advise, prepare returns and sign filings as authorised.

THE OPTIONS

Understand your options

Newly incorporated company

Identify national and local notifications, accounting records, invoicing decisions and deadlines with a tax practitioner.

Existing Japanese business

Coordinate bookkeeping handoff, corporate tax, consumption tax, payroll or cross-border questions with the appropriate adviser.

Individual / foreign resident

Determine tax residence and income categories with a professional before estimating the filing scope.

DOCUMENTS & INFORMATION

What to prepare initially

  • Entity registry documents and fiscal year if a company
  • Accounting ledger, invoices, receipts, bank transaction exports and payroll data as applicable
  • Prior filings, notices and tax registration information
  • Income categories and dates of residence for personal taxes
  • Relevant overseas income, taxes paid overseas and other cross-border documents for practitioner review

A professional will confirm the complete, case-specific document list. Please do not send passports or financial records in the initial inquiry form.

IMPORTANT BEFORE YOU COMMIT

Scope, timing and things that can change the budget

  • For a domestic new corporation, the national corporation-establishment notification is generally due within two months after incorporation, subject to entity-specific rules.
  • Personal tax residence and taxation of foreign-source income can differ from immigration residence status. Do not assume that non-Japanese citizenship decides the result.
  • KIZUNA’s overall budget estimates exclude actual income/corporate tax liabilities; those are not service fees and depend on the client’s situation.

MORE ANSWERS

Questions people ask before engaging

Are income taxes included in your fee?

No. The project budget estimates service and usual administrative charges, not the amount of tax payable.

Who prepares and files my return?

A licensed tax accountant, engaged for the applicable regulated work. KIZUNA coordinates only the agreed support work.

Can I retain my existing accountant?

Yes, where the accountant agrees to the communication scope. KIZUNA can work alongside an adviser you already trust.

Actual tax liabilities, major audits, unusually high transaction volumes, office costs, payroll wages, new licence applications and out-of-scope translations.

These are market-aligned budget examples, not a fixed quote or a guarantee of outcome. Ordinary English-language coordination, agreed meetings and routine correspondence are already included in the scoped service fees; exceptional or certified translations are quoted separately only if needed. Licensed professionals independently contract for regulated work. You receive an itemised total estimate before paid work begins.

Who is responsible for regulated work

Tax advice, tax return preparation and tax representation remain with a licensed tax accountant or other legally authorised person. We do not determine whether an expense is deductible.

FAQ

Common questions

Can you file my Japanese tax return?

No. We support communication with a qualified tax professional; the professional assesses and files where engaged to do so.

I have an accountant who does not speak English. Can you work together?

That is a core use case, subject to the accountant’s agreement and availability of an interpreter.

Can you estimate the tax I owe?

That requires a qualified tax professional to evaluate your circumstances. We can support the discussion.
